My Story

Not knowing if we could naturally conceive a child was the worst feeling in the world.

After 4 years of surgeries, ultrasounds, ovulation tracking, and fertility medications, my PCP decided to refer me to a reproductive endocrinologist for a second opinion. We learned that I had decreased 'ovarian reserve', which is used to determine the capacity of the ovary to provide egg cells that are capable of fertilization resulting in a healthy and successful pregnancy.

Basically, I had an average of 5 small follicles that produced each month. An average lady under the age of 30 produces 10-25 each cycle, while a pre-menopausal woman will only have 2 or 3 follicles. In order to produce a healthy egg, my follicles had to grow. My endocrinologist suggested that I start taking two supplements each day called DHEA and NEQ10. I was tested again after two months and found that my levels had risen, however, ultrasounds still indicated poor follicle growth, which in turn resulted in our first unsuccessful IUI treatment.

We met with my endocrinologist after another 7 months of trying to discuss my overall treatment process and future treatment options. We decided if we had a chance to biologically conceive a child, our best chance was to go straight to IVF with a 2 embryo transfer (28%-40% success rate) which is outstanding when you think about the average pregnancy rate being only 10% successful. This was our only shot, so we went for it.

Finally. Almost 5 years & $16,000 later, our miracle babies were born.

My struggle with infertility was the most refining experience of my life.

In my darkest moments, I had to rely on the man upstairs along with the fertility specialists at FAM to forge the way for our family. My medical insurance didn't cover our fertility treatment, so we had to take out a personal loan. As a family, we were tested financially, emotionally and spiritually. We were stretched thin.

During our time of struggle, we didn't know of the many resources provided by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. RESOLVE is a non-profit corporation that advocates for those who have or are struggling with infertility. With donations like ours, they are able to provide close to 300 support groups nationwide, reaching over 600,000 people online each month. RESOLVE advocates to protect legal access to all family building options & insurance coverage. RESOLVE provides trained activists who give a voice to the infertility community by lobbying at our state capitals for pro-family legislation. RESOLVE helps make infertility affordable for many families like mine, whose medical insurance does not cover infertility treatment.

It is my belief that we should give back to the community. 10% of each sale will be donated to RESOLVE each month by Ochre & Ash Boutique. Will you help us?
